I know good mexican isn't hard to find in SE Michigan but I'm sorry, I just avoid going Downtown. You will rarely find me within the Motor City limits unless it's for a Wings game or the occasional play. I have nothing against the city as a whole but I feel spoiled by true "big city" atmopshere after spending plenty of time in Chicago and Toronto. Detroit just tends to make me blue. But I digress...Mexican Village came to me as a recommendation by a co-worker, whose opinion I trust. After El Nibble Nook in Rochester closed, I thought my days of spicy indulgence had left me. Yeah, there's an El Nibble in Livonia (or is that Westland?) but Grand River gives me fits. And Taco Bell, well...that's not food. That's late night, "I've had way too many vodka tonic and could use a good blowout" fare. MV is a quick drive from pretty much anywhere in metro Detroit. The moment I walked in, you could smell the goodness. Chips and salsa on the table and we went at it. The mild salsa was really good, different. It tasted like it had a hint of basil. I don't know if it's made in house, but it tasted really fresh. My date had the steak fajitas, with meat so tender after one bite said "These are the best fajitas I have ever had". While it didn't look like a huge portion when the sizzling plate was set down, he took half of it home. I got a combo platter, The Arizonian, which consisted of every beefy delight MV has to offer. The enchilada was outstanding, as was the taco. After devouring the rice and beans, I was stuffed and took the rest to go. The menu is pretty big and the prices are really cheap. For the two of us, each with a cocktail, it was about $30. My date couldn't stop raving about the food, as was I. Service was fast and friendly and for a Wednesday night, the place was poppin'. We'll be back, often, because a gem like MV is a great find! How did I not know about this place before?

My friend raves about this place all the time so I could not wait to go. I wasn't disappointed. I go to Mexican restaurants for the grease, salt and fat. I'm looking for comfort, not a fine dining experience. I enjoyed the chips and salsa (which was not too spicy). I ordered the chicken tostadas which came with beans and rice. The flavors were not bland at all. It was a huge plate of food, which I was more than happy to take home for the next day's lunch. I will definitely go back again (when I am not watching my waistline :))

Great service and a good tasting meal for a reasonable price. Went here with a few buddies, chips and salsa as well as the drinks were being refilled without us even having to ask. Meals were great and service was speedy. Nothing too great about the food, but the service was excellent and the price is cheap. I will give them my business again.

You people dissing the service and food are either being disingenuous or having a bad day. The Golden Margarita was excellent and the cheapest in the area. Taco barbacoa was delicious and a welcome relief from all the americanized mexican food gringos seem to love. Great service. Great food. Period.

I grew up eating here with friends and family. I live in Colorado now so when I come home to visit I make sure to eat here each time.

I have been coming here for years! Mexican village is the ultimate Mexican restaurant experience in the area. The outside even looks like you are in Mexico, so does the inside with the dim lighting and stained glass windows. Their food is amazing and you are always welcomed with free chips and salsa. They have authentic Mexican food, real good Mexican drinks, the staff is very friendly and polite, and everything is always fresh and the restaurant is clean. I would recommend Mexican Village to anyone who wants to try out authentic Mexican food.

Seriously one of the best. We stop in every time we are in town. The enchiladas are my choice 8 out of 10 times. The other 2 are the fajitas. The only reason the fajitas aren't more regular is because they are so big you need to share. They also have great homemade salsa, friendly staff, an extensive bar, and Mountain Dew. Come on now what's not to love about some rib sticking enchiladas washed down with Mountain Dew?!? Love this place and can't wait to come back next time we are home for a visit. Definitely give it a look.

Very good food and a nice atmosphere. The reason I gave this three stars was how long the experience took. We ordered appetizers and it took 40 minutes to receive them. While it was decently busy, there appeared to be enough people on staff, and our waiter never explained the wait. I would go back, but they have some opportunities in getting dishes out in an appropriate time.

Two of us came here for dinner last Wednesday night around 6pm. We were put on a wait for about 20 minutes. It was pretty packed for this weekday night. While you wait there is a bar right there, so you are able to get a drink which is nice. Our waiter was very polite and had great suggestions. I ordered no tomatoes in our appetizer and when it came to our dinner, after I ordered he noted to me that there was tomatoes in which I may not like- which was AWESOME! Great drinks, service and food!

We hadn't been here in about 8 years and I was quickly reminded why. The tables are obnoxiously close to one another. Add in the fact that there aren't any windows in the dining room and it was pretty awful. The service was efficient and quick but that was really the only good thing about our experience. The rice appeared to be a mix out of a box and the enchiladas were drowning in a sea of cheese. My fajitas came with raw peppers and onions and no flavor. We will not be returning.

I may be a bit nostalgic, or just tipsy, but this is my favorite restaurant:) If you have Manuel or Nikki as your wait person, count yourself lucky. They are both friendly and helpful. Order a margarita and enjoy the chips and salsa (try both hot and mild). My favorites are chaulpas, but everything I have tried was tasty. And then have another margarita...

In a word, for me at least, this place is MEH. We were invited to an engagement dinner here. I live much closer to the original location in Detroit, and don't really care for that location much either. The place was PACKED and they didn't let us make reservations so we were stuck waiting like everyone else. Almost an hour after we arrived we were seated. Our waiter was very nice, I wish I could remember his name. : / I ordered fried flour tacos with chicken. He asked if I wanted rice and beans and I said no. He advised that the difference between ala cart and the "dinner" was like 35 cents.. I told him I didn't care, I didn't want rice and beans. Guess who got rice and beans anyway? Yep, and they were gross. Why any Mexican restaurant thinks any diner wants a half plate of mush beans and rice with NO flavor is absolutely lost on me. There was plenty of food to be had, and most of it was boxed up. No one raved, but no one threw up either, so that's a positive. The company we had was great and that made the experience very nice, but this place had nothing to do with that unfortunately. I would never go back unless invited again. Sorry. /Beans!

What there to try a couple of times. I was not impressed that the chimichangas we're premade. What kind of Mexican place has pre-made food? They could not give me a ground beef chimichanga because they made it in the morning? That's horrible! What kind of place is this? The chips are extremely boring even though the salsa is really good. The service is mediocre at best. Definitely go to another Mexican restaurant if you want off then take and fresh food. If you like special orders don't come here because you might not get what you want. People like it and are people who don't. I definitely would try it at least once but I won't be going back a third time

YUM!! I had not been here in a LONG TIME!! It was suggested for a family birthday get together and I was stoked.....not stoked was I that they did not take reservations or call ahead seating on weekend nights, so when I popped in at 5:56pm...I was told it would be about an hour and fifteen minute wait....drat! One hour later, all parties present, half of a large Margherita down, we were good to go! Thank goodness the chips are plentiful because this girl was buzzed from her Rita....I had the tamales....my all time fave....that I learned from our sever Aurelia, that they are handmade in her sisters home... :) :) :) This I like! A LOT! They were really yummy!! I've just always liked this restaurant, I used to live in the area, and I've been several times...I've never had a bad experience...and this place is not hurting for business...so they must be doing something right... I'm a fan, I'm a fan...yes I am!!

Been here ten minutes already on a very busy Friday night. Rough crowd. Can't seem to get the bartenders attention for a drink, while my husband has been standing at the bar trying to get me a margarita. He asked politely for service and a nasty brown-haired bartender told him to step aside so she could serve her friends behind him. #Later #nevercomingback

Best Mexican food around! I have been going over 10 years! Their enchiladas are awesome and their chips and salsa are the best!!

Mexican is everywhere taco stands popping up on ever corner. But more of the Mex-I-can want wannabes are just a remix of bean rice and some kinda sauce. But there are a few good local joint that do justice to the real thing. Mexican Village a good job bring a bit of the old country to the table. Not every dish is a home run. But a fun place with cool little bar. A little to commercial for my taste. But good value not "oh my God" good.

First time here, good Mexican food, delicious margarita, and the sweet salsa that they bring to the table is amazing! I could have eaten that all night. It was my cousin's birthday so they brought her fried ice cream and then brought each of the 4 kids ice cream and a cookie!! It was very nice. Great service too!! I've heard that this place has been around for a very long time.

Love me some Mexican Village but this was a disappointment! We asked for some guacamole with our salsa and this is what came....mashed avocados with 6 tomato chunks on top...depressing ;( other than that food is good! Not as good as some secret spots in Florida but for up here its palpable, server was nice but defiantly new to the restaurant business, forgot to take my grandmas order (there was 3 of us) and left the menus on the table with us, no biggie but it was noticeable

THE SUPER NACHOS! That is the main reason we come here. The other food is good too, but those nachos are UNBELIEVABLE! My husband and I crave them all the time. You could easily come here and only order the nachos for the two of you and be set. Large portion, and the best nachos we have ever eaten. Can't wait to come back!

  • Kelly S.

This was my first time here. I had the tamales. The tamales were excellent. I was surprised they provided brown gravey (at least it was served on the side) with the tamales but it was tastey! The beans and rice that came with it were also very good. I would have preferred just a little bit of cheese on the beans but they were good all by themselves. The plate also had some fresh salad on the side that I enjoyed. I also ordered the house Sangria which was OK. I liked the taste of the Sangria but there was very little fruit provided...but overall it was OK for $4.50. We ordered a side of guacamole which I did not like. I found it edible but such a waste to add sour cream or whatever it was to thicken the guac. The thickener they added took away the taste of the avacado. I find the best gucamole is avacado, some salsa, lime and cilantro...don't mess with it by adding American items such as mayor or sour cream. As a result the guacamole was very bland. The chips and salsa were good. Their hot salsa was very mild and their mild salsa taste like stewed tomatoes. The service was good. The throwback 70's atmosphere was fun. The food was delivered in a timely fashion and was served at the correct temperature. I'll be back. I just won't order the guacamole. :)

  • L. W.

The food was pretty good, but i prefer more flavor. Not so authentic, perhaps the food is more catered to a spice-sensitive crowd. The service was okay, our waiter was attentive but cold. I can understand that since it was close to closing time when we left. It was a bland experience, i'll stick to my usual spots for mexican food where my taste buds and wallet are happy. We ordered the enchiladas suizas, the enchilada trio and some guac.

Horrible experience! Tried the waitress' suggestion of a blue-raspberry margarita...literally 20minutes later I'm outside getting physically sick! I have been here before and had a great time but something in that margarita was spoiled and I will not ever be getting one again

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant, hands down. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and still cannot get enough of their food. Their salsa is so good that I could drink it (seriously! And it doesn't have cilantro in it, which is huge for me because I HATE cilantro) and their grilled chicken fajitas are a must order. Large portions, delicious flavors, and always great service. My one complaint is that the margaritas could taste much more fresh if they started using fresh squeezed lime juice and agave nectar, but admittedly I am a drink snob, so I'm sure they are just fine for others.

This is by far the best Mexican Restaurant!!! The Beef Barazzo is to die for!! As is the freshly made salsa, I'd drive out of my way for this salsa!! The Fajitas are so yummy and enough for a whole table!! And the 1/2 craft of margaritas is so yummy they don't skimp on the alcohol!! I can't say enough good things about this place!!!

This is by far my favorite mexican restaurant! I love everything about it except for waiting for a table but that's because they're always packed which proves how good this restaurant really is.

This review hurts me to write because this place was one of my favorite restaurants of all time. My review is dedicated to the night manager. I do not know her name ,but we went to Mexican village 20 minutes before closing time which I know is frowned upon ,but if you say you are open until 10 you best be cooking until 10. Regardless the night manager wouldn't serve us. We all knew what we wanted and wanted to enjoy the delicious food. Regardless that wasn't the biggest deal, we said to here I have never been to a place that doesn't serve someone before the restaurant closes. Anyway as we walk out she decided to say "Well now you have" we said excuse me, and she kept bickering. We said, "You have yelp posted all over this establishment, are you sure you want to be disrespecting your customers" and she stated, "Yelp is for cry babies" In the end she called my brother white trash , which because of his tattoos and a Detroit hat and he looks like he is 18 (although he is 28) it automatically makes him white trash. We know the owners personally and complained regardless this lady is terrible and offensive. I will never go back as long as this woman is there. My absolute favorite restaurant is dead to me. Depressing ,but there is no excuse for someone this absurd.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. You won't leave here hungry. Good value for your money. One of my favorites is the arizonian it's the combo plate with a flour beef taco, beef and cheese enchilada, beef and cheese burrito, beef chimichanga with beans and rice. You also get chips and salsa with your meal. Service has always been good when I have gone there.

We went on a Friday. It was very crowded and loud. The food was good but nothing special. Not sure if I will give them another try. We took a platter, so we could get a little of everything. The salsa was fresh, but reminded us both of Italian seasoning.

  • Randa B.

Went in with a friend. So the chips and salsa is complimentary which is nice, we received mild and hot, the hot was mild and had no flavor to it. Than I ordered a side salad. The lettuce was funky and so was everything else on it (the cheese smelled bad too). So than I was hoping for some good chicken fajitas. That also was terrible. Had no flavor at all- can't taste any spices and the chicken was just not good. I was sad that I walked out not enjoying one bite. Needless to say I grabbed a mint on the way out.

Great food! It is hard to find authentic Mexican food in Michigan. This is the closest thing to growing up in California! Will go back for sure! Great hot salsa.

Very, very disappointed. This was recommended by a friend to try. While my fiancée ' s chiminganga was acceptable, the beef tacos were absolutely tasteless. We also had a queso for an appetizer that was lumpy and not close to acceptable. Instead of being sorry, he told us (I'm his way) that we were stupid and didn't understand what the different quesos were. Bye bye tip for calling us stupid. At least he took it off the bill. Definitely no return visit for us. I suggest sticking with better Mexican restaurants.

One word....terrible. Food is bland, tasteless and in no way Mexican. We've had Mexican in several states and this is by far the worst. We've come here several times because people are always saying how great this restaurant is, and we've been trying to figure out why. We've come to the conclusion that people continue to come here because this is where they've always come, but the food is worse than awful. During lunch you are not able to make any substitutions to fillings because the food is prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge or freezer on metal trays they toss in the oven for a few minutes when you order. My food was served cold in the center. The inside of the restaurant is old, tired, and just a step above filthy. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I've been coming here since I was little and it is by far one of the best Mexican places around. The margaritas are strong, food is always amazing, and service is great. Big fan of the hot salsa and the refried beans. The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is because of the size of the restaurant. They are always packed and almost always on a wait. I've came in at lunch when only two servers were on the floor so only one half of the restaurant was being seated. I had to wait a little but overall still worth it!!

    (4)
  • Sam G.

Would give 5 stars, but seeing there's always await. Only knock on this place. Great food excellent service, food and drinks. Price is right in, best Mexican food around. Highly recommended

I remember eating at Mexican Village when I was a child. What happened?!? The food was so....BLAND!!! The salsa tasted like marinara sauce. The seasoned ground beef was browned hamburger. The shredded beef was dry and flavorless. I think the cheese was mozzarella. However, the service was outstanding!!!! Out server was friendly and the drink refills were there before we ever had to ask. It's a shame he is wasting his talents on bland food.

This place is the best Authentic Mexican restaurant. I love it. I usually always get same every time I go there I love the chicken chemechanga very very good. They also have the best Margaritas. I brought my friend here few times because she loves Mexican Food and she loves the food there because its fresh, very good and real Authentic. It's a good environment place and authentic. Now that's a real Mexican restaurant. Very clean restaurant, very homie and nice staff of employees and everyone is very friendly. Also the owner is really nice. I love this place my favorite Mexican restaurant.

  • Sharin L.

Not as good as the downtown Mexican village. I noticed they had different vegetables such as peas and sweet green peppers in their chimichangas. The waitstaff squeezed seven (larger people) into a table made for six. When we move two of our children over to a vacant booth across the aisle - they were very cranky. I might add it was not very busy that day. Service was slow.

    (2)
  • Edward B.

Drove 30 minutes in a rain storm to try them out. Was not impressed. Wait staff was good but then the place was empty. The barreto beef was dry, almost gritty. The cheese was a full cheddar, very heavy. Not a Montaray mix. Prices were good but all in all ; Don't think we will return.

What the hell happened? I just had me some Mexican Village because I wanted some near-me "authentic" Mexican food, and this tastes nothing like I remember. I got carry out of the Arizonian, and there were also two left over enchiladas. I didn't eat it all -- yet -- but I can comment on what I did have. First of all, the meat... it seems to be a different texture and flavor than I remember. It's really find and almost a paste, which I don't care for. The soft taco wasn't bad, but I've had better. The enchiladas were alright, but I was confused ... why was the ground meat in my enchiladas a different texture than what was in my burrito? That confused me and weirded me out a little bit. The rice is still some of the best that I've had at any Mexican restaurant, and the beans are pretty decent, but this isn't the place that I remember having so many times previously. Two more things that bothered me ... the take out portions of rice and beans are smaller than they'd be if you ate in the restaurant (half a cup of beans and rice... I remember having more), and you don't get a bag of chips and salsa, which is something that I always get included for free when I get Mexican take-out -- not here, I guess. Decent, not great. Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe the place is cutting corners. Whatever it is, at this point, I think I'd rather stick to Poncho's, which is about 15 miles closer to my house, better tasting, cheaper, and a better value overall. ... ... Well, not anymore, since it got torn down.

Not Mexican food. Mozzarella cheese on enchiladas? Melted white stringy and goey cheese dip for a queso? Stale store bought chips. Oregano in salsa!? This is a far cry from Mexican food. Wished it was better but turned out to be disappointing.

  • Lauren M.

Wasn't that impressed. Took awhile to get our food. Saw a table come in after us and got their food before us. I ordered carne asada tacos. The beef was tough, not much flavor. There were more onions than anything in them. Definitely not authentic. However, I did enjoy a taste of their fried ice cream. That was probably the best part of that meal.

Every time my family and I have come here I always tell myself we will never return yet I made the mistake of returning. This place has very poor management and horrible costumer service!! We were treated very poorly. I ordered a southwestern chicken salad and asked if I can substitute the chicken for shrimp and was willing to pay an up charge fee. They said I couldn't which I did not understand and ended up eating their extremely dry chicken. I also paid extra for adding olives to the salad which I was fine with as well but when I got my salad, there were no avocados. When I inform the waitress, her answer to me was "I saw avocados on there when I brought out the plate." She insisted on arguing with me and accused me of lying. By the way, when I informed her, I had hardly even touched my plate so according to her, I must have ate only the avocados. Furthermore, my brother asked for water and she just walked away so he simply said "excuse me" and before he could finish, she turned around and said "I heard you!" and walked away. I was in complete shock at the way we were treated. As if this experience couldn't have got any worse, the tamales were horrible and manager was disrespectful. No surprise there! Needless to say, I will not be returning for sure.

Yum! We ordered chic bean & cheese wet burritos, chic taco, chic fajitas. Everything was delicious. Service was outstanding, very friendly never had an empty glass. Great food with reasonable prices.

Love this place! My only complaint is the bar area. Either they need to make the bar bigger with seating. Or service for drinks in the waiting area. It's so busy here that if you're going for dinner it's almost impossible to order a drink while waiting for a table.

    (4)
  • Colette C.

Best. Tacos. Ever. Salsa & chips are amazing, too. We ALWAYS stop here when visiting my folks. First went to the one downtown Detroit when I worked down there, and now my parents live out here so we go to the one in Shelby Twp. Both are excellent. Great portions - Reasonable prices.

Hands down the Best Mexican restaurant in Michigan, even better than the Mexican restaurants downtown Mexican village. The only downside is that it's always so busy you usually have to wait, even with a reservation. You seriously cannot order a bad thing off the menu. The salsa and guacamole are a must. Usually we get the enchiladas for dinner. I love the beef ones the most. My 2 1/2 year-old son liked the taquitos or flautas, I can't remember which were on the menu but they were great finger food. Family friendly and always can't wait to go back, especially for a frozen drink!

Decor is a flash back to the '70s. Needs some updating. I had the burritos and they were good, but pretty plain. Nachos were also good but relatively unexciting. Portions were large and service was a little slow but certainly friendly.

Had some business to attend to out on VanDyke and it was before 5pm so thought, have not been here in years, lets give it a go Wow! Things sure have changed...for the worse. walked in at 4:47 , 3 gals in front of us, we inquired are you in line? "Yes they are getting us a table, your next" So they get seated and at 5pm a hostess, finally greets us & seats us. no eye contact no chat..nothing. THANKFULLY our server Matt was GREAT, CARING, ATTENTIVE ! He was even very accommodating as we split a 4 taco entree with double beans versus rice. Food was okay...until 7:30 when my wife needed to get home & consume PeptoBismal Both salsa's were rather, lame weak & runny, tasted like the PACE brand... the staff /mgr besides MATT all seemed very nonchalant & as another yelper mentioned, this place, tables, chairs, walls & floor are dirty there saving grace must be low lighting & too many margaritas Food & Interior - 1 star Matt the server 5 stars!

This is such a great place to meet with friends, family or coworkers. Great service each time I've ever been here. Usually pretty busy around dinner time during the week and weekends but the wait has never been too long. The chips and salsa they serve are always fresh and warm, with great salsa! Very reasonable prices for the amount of food they give you. The bartender also makes great margaritas!

This is one of the better Mexican restaurants that I've been to. I'm Mexican, so finding an authentic restaurant outside of Detroit is pretty tough. However, Mexican Village is pretty dang close. I always order the Village Vegetarian and it's so good. My mom orders the burrazo and she hasn't had any complaints. The waitresses are friendly and keep an eye on you, but they aren't constantly coming over and getting annoying. If you want pretty good Mexican food, definitely come here!

My wife and I have driven by on a number of occasions saying each time that we wanted to try the place out. We finally drove by at the right time and we decided to give it a try. The place was packed but our wait was no bad at all. The smells were awesome and I was really enjoying the atmosphere of the place. We were promptly seated (much sooner than I expected given the crowd) and our drink orders were taken. The only sudo complaint at this point is that due to the size and and acoustics the crowd noise was very loud. This isn't a real complaint but it does make it a bit difficult to talk with the people at your table. Our drinks came quickly as did the chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are one of my favorite parts of having Mexican food. Now I am a real wimp when it comes to spicy food but this salsa was bland to me which is really unheard of. This was the first time that I have ever said that about a restaurant's salsa. Unfortunately this trend didn't stop with the salsa. I ordered one of their burritos and although good and covered with cheesy goodness it was very bland. The portion size was huge and I had to take half of it home but I forgot about it and it was later thrown in the trash. My wife had a combo plate and she had me eat one of the tacos. It was done with fried tortilla shell and it was delicious. Bottom line is that the place was really nice and the staff really friendly and prompt. My only real complaint was the blandness of the salsa. If it had a little more flavor I'm sure my burrito would have been better. I will not rule this place out and I will give it another shot as the overall experience was good and I loved the atmosphere here.

This is strictly based on calling about a party at the Utica location. I called asking about having a party and the guy was so rude. According to the website, it doesn't specify which location can or cannot hold a party. I was told immediately "When, what day?," " we'll it can't be dinner," "it can't be May 5,"(ok understandably) "well it has to be either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday." I love the food here but just for future readers who might think about hosting a party, don't waste your time.

I have heard forever how good this place is and it always seems packed. After 7 years out west I decided to try it. Ugh, this is a place for people who clearly have no idea what good Mexican food is. Guac was awful, salsa was thymey, spicy salsa was alright. Ordered the enchilada rancheros and wanted 2 chicken and a cheese and was told nope, they had to all be the same. Never have I been to a place where you can't have different enchiladas...seriously, how hard is it to use cheese instead of chicken for one. The dish itself was pretty bland and just covered in cheese. Not worth the calories or money. I definitely won't be returning.

This is my favorite mexican retaurant, hands down. I don't ever even look at the menu, I always get the Arizonian platter, absolutely love it. It is always packed, so we normally just order take out and have never been disappointed.

This is without question my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The food is flavorful and tastes delicious! I once went down to San Antonio, Texas and ate at a mexican restaurant there. This place comes the closest to recreating it that I've found. I also love the chips and salsa. Most place just have the typical salsa that's akin to Taco Bell's salsa: not much to em just a few seeds and that's about it and when you get the hot salsa it loses even more flavor as a result. But here you can see the veggies in it! The onions, the peppers etc. and it's got an excellent flavor as well. Their hot variety packs a bit more heat without sacrificing the flavor (there's definitely hotter out there but I'm glad they chose to keep the flavor over increasing the heat). If you're in the area I highly recommend it.

I love Mexican Village! This has been my favorite restaurant for a long time, for both dining in and carry out. Their chips and salsa are my absolute favorite. Tons of great menu options and the service is always good! The prices are also very reasonable.

I can't give this less than one star because it's not an option. I can't even review on the food because we never even made it that far. The kids and I stopped in a while back and were greeted by a nearly empty restaurant at a time when they should have been hopping. The actual greeter was busy hanging in a booth with 3 other workers...all just BS'ing and acting immature, childish and inappropriate. They completely ignored us until I shouted over "do we just seat ourselves?" All high school age workers. The one girl rolled her eyes visibly at the others and said "no, I'm coming, sorry" - walked to the hostess stand/register, grabbed some menus and walked to the back and placed the menus on a table and walked away. The table was filthy. The booth seats were covered with food and filthy. So we were just going to table hop....but alas....ALL OF THE TABLES/BOOTHS WERE DISGUSTING. No one seemed to care. no one was concerned that they were serving food in a cesspool. NO THANK YOU. I'd rather dumpster dive.

No longer have to travel down to Detroit to get authentic Mexican food!!!! This is the sister restaurant to the Mexican Village in South West Detroit. Our family loves this restaurant. Wait staff is always friendly. The large margarita is all one needs for and extra kick! There is no skimping on drinks at all! Strong and good :)

For me..This is my favorite Mexican joint. I have always enjoyed pretty much anything I have eaten here. The salsa is great! The Enchiladas Verde is superb..Except I don't understand why they place a pickle slice on it? That's kinda gross. They also have BY FAR..THE STRONGEST AND MOST POTENT Margarita's. Service has not been an issue for me. It's a busy Mexican restaurant..Not breakfast at Tiffany's.

How can I not give 5 stars to a place that has been consistently awesome for 30 years? Sister location of the original Mexican Village in Mexicantown, Detroit. Love the fajitas and chili con queso, but I've never had anything I regretted here. One of my favorite restaurants.

The wife and I moved out to this area about 14 years ago, and that's when we started visiting Mexican Village. I will admit we loved it, but unfortunately it's gone downhill over the years. The last time we ate there my wife and I could only find one word to describe our food, and that was "slop".

Definitely not "authentic" Mexican, but sometimes I want some ridiculously huge-portioned and extremely cheese-laden enchiladas. Sue me. I like their food. Go before 5pm on the weekends if you don't want to wait.

Wow, sometimes it's depressing how swiftly and badly things can change! Before moving 6 months ago I dined here, and the food was good, fairly priced, and warranted a return visit on my brief trip to MI. However none of what was true then is true now, Firstly: The portions are smaller Secondly: The Staff is rude! Thirdly: The menu has become insanely strict I ordered a vegetarian combo meal which I have ordered before, and asked for soft tacos, as apposed to crunchy. The menu list's the meal includes two tacos, a tostedo, and enchilada. No where does it state what kind of taco you will receive, just that it now can only have one substitution, substitution in my mind means if i for went a taco altogether, and instead wanted an enchilada. Evidently according to them it means asking for a soft taco instead of a crunchy one, which the waitress refused flat out to do. I then asked if they could just throw the crunchy taco away, and charge me for an additional soft taco. I was not concerned with the price I would pay whatever, they could have charged me a bunch more money and win win right? Wrong! With in 5 minutes the manager, who was a very not nice lady, tells me they will not make any for of substitution, that they never have or will in the future... only WRONG i have ordered this before! She walks away in a huff, I start complaining to my dinner companions under my breath. Then realize I have no idea what food is actually going to come to the table after my management conversation, at this point we should have just left, but I was really trying to make it work. I return to the manager, and ask her again what my order will be and ask if i can just order the items I want separate, instead of the combo. She tells me it's my fault because I don't know how to order. I didn't realize there was a right or wrong way to order, if I'm not "Allowed" to have soft tacos state so on your menu instead of being so vague. Also don't be so rude to your customers. In the end I received what I wanted, only after the waitress returned while I was gone to tell my dinner partners shes is appalled by me. We still tipped 20+ % even though she didn't deserve it, and what they gained is a shitty review and me never again returning to them. Thanks Mexican village for destroying my memories of awesome tacos.

My wife and I have been searching for a good Mexican restaurant that we are used to in the South. We love the not-really authentic, slightly greasy restaurants, but it can't be too Americanized. The place is clean and the service was really great. We should have known better when we saw no Mexican work staff....no....not one. They didn't have the quest dip we usually like...the white cheese....we can't find it anywhere around here! Suggestions welcome. The lunch menu was priced great and you get a lot of food. The chips and salsa was decent, but served in tiny little bowls...but I won't complain too much since its free. I am still on the search for a good Mexican restaurant. It wasn't a bad place to eat, but didn't have the little parts we were looking for. Service and cleanliness gives it 4 instead of 3.

Came here last night with my girlfriend and some friends of hers. I was a little hesitant going to place so far from home, but why not. After the meal, I am extremely glad we came here. Chips and salsa were OK. Nothing special, but better than most places. I ordered some guacamole that was pretty good. big portion too, which made it perfect for sharing. My gf and I ordered the chicken fajitas for two. These were fantastic. It was served with cheese, sour cream, and pico. Everything tasted so fresh. The chicken was cooked to perfection. It was a very large serving. We could not finish the whole meal, partially because we filled up on chips. The other notable meal was our friend got the Milanesas a la Mexicana. I had a small bit and it was very good. It was a steak flattened out to cover the entire plate, breaded and fried, with melted cheese and a mexican sauce on top. terrific for your cholesterol!!! It was damn good, but can't see myself ordering one and feeling good about myself after. The service was fantastic. They have a lot of people with various tasks. Some to fill water, some to fill chips, etc. Everyone was doing a great job. I'd come back here again

I am a salsa junkie, and MV by far has the BEST I've ever tasted. My husband and I go here about once every 2 weeks. I go through withdrawals if I don't visit frequently. I have never had anything bad here. Quick service. Servers are friendly. I always order something to take home so I can take it to work the next day. They just recently remodeled the place, it needed it! Great place, in fact, I think we will go there tonight!

My wife and our friend go to Mexican Village a few times a year. The food is above average, although they do get a little heavy-handed with cheese. The room is somewhat noisy but not too bad. The waitstaff ranges from so-so to pretty good. Overall, Mexican Village is a pretty good Mexican restaurant, although I prefer Azteca.

This was our 3rd attempt at Mexican after moving to the area. We've decided people in this area don't know anything about Mexican food. This place was terrible. I think id rather go to Don Pablo's. Bagged chips? Really?

I have been eating here for 25 years, and try to make at least five visits a year, even though I no longer live in the area. In fact, I can't remember the last time I ate out anywhere else in all of Macomb County. I think it was in the 90s. There's just something about this place that I can't resist and it's the only place all five members of my immediate family (and extended family, now that I think of it) have ever been able to agree on. The chips change every now and then, but the ones they're using now are excellent. The salsa is addictive and unique, and that hasn't changed in all the years I've been eating here. There's more than one vegetarian combo dinner, but be warned, one of them does a little overkill on the refried beans. Village Vegetarian is the one I always get, and I always eat the whole darned thing, even though it's way too much food for one person. The prices are cheap, and the lunch specials are really well-priced. Even the drinks are affordable. And that brings me to the beautiful creation that is the Blue Margarita, which features a shot of Blue Curacao, so it's stronger than the others. I don't like margaritas, but The Village's are the only ones that DON'T give me heartburn. But beware! They are ridiculously strong! One and I'm happily tipsy. Even though I love this restaurant more than any other I've been to, I can recognize it has its flaws: the guac has no taste unless you mix it with the salsa, and sadly the take-out is consistently horrendous. Always has been, not sure why. So always eat-in! They don't take reservations, and are almost always ridiculously packed on Fri and Sat nights. But I love this place so much and always have a great time when I go. My family does pitchers of the blue 'ritas and always gets loud and obnoxious, but the staff never seems to get annoyed by us. Best Mexican food ever! I would kill for some chips & salsa and a blue 'rita right now!

I am from the West coast. LOVE my Mexican food. All I will say is that we went on a weekday evening, the place was PACKED! I was sooo excited. The wait was too long so we came back on Saturday for lunch. There was no one else eating there when we arrived.. (usually a bad sign here in MI I have learned).....Ok, but the staff was friendly and it was packed a few days ago.. and it has to be good with all the people during the week, right? Were they all just drinking? We were seated, brought me the chips and salsa I have been dying for. All I can say is, the salsa smelled funny, but I took a bite. The salsa was off/rotten/rancid!!!! Needless to say, we did not eat there. We left immediately. Can someone explain? Was this a fluke? I want to give this place a chance....

This is one of my favorite mexican restaurant around here. Their food is fantastic. The only problem I have with it is if its a Friday or Saturday night you may have to wait a while for your table, but its worth it once you get the food. Their chips and salsa is really good too, I can eat a whole bowl of them by myself when I go there.

This is my favorite mexican restaurant in metro detroit. There are others that are good as well, but the chicken enchiladas at Mexican Village put them over the top for me. Love this place. Seating outside a booth is a bit tight however.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
